The Ruffed Grouse
The Ruff Grouse is prey to hawks, owl, fox, and bobcats. Their best defense is to keep movement to a minimum, making them almost invisible to their predators. By scrunching close to the ground and compressing they feathers, they can reduce the amount of scent. During winter, they will fly into snow at high speeds and burrow in it.

They also are not as vocal as other birds, the female will cluck to let her chicks own where she is. She will warn them against predators by making a short high pitched squeal. When threatened she will fake the broken wing, and even charge an intruder.

Buds and berries are the favorite for of grouse. They also love grapes.
